The light novel Bungo Stray Dogs: Beast by Kafka Asagiri is getting a live-action movie that will debut on January 7. Ahead of this a short English-subtitled trailer has been released.
The movie’s script is being written by none other than original writer Asagiri. The story flips the scenario, making Atsushi Nakajima a member of the Port Mafia and Ryūnosuke Akutagawa a member of the Armed Detective Agency. Ryūnosuke Akutagawa wants revenge against a mysterious man and must protect his sister. When things get really rough for him, he meets with a man from the Armed Detective Agency. The movie is being directed by Koichi Sakamoto, who previously worked on 009-1: The End of the Beginning.
Shōhei Hashimoto plays Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, Yūki Torigoe plays Atsushi Nakajima, Masashi Taniguchi plays Sakunosuke Oda, Teruma plays Doppo Kuniki, Ryōki Nagae plays Rampo Edogawa, Kōsuke Kuwano plays Junichirō Tanizaki, Hitoshi Horinouchi plays Kenji Miyazawa, Ao Hirakawa plays Akiko Yosano, Akari Saitō plays Naomi Tanizaki, Rui Tabuchi plays Osamu Dazai, Sakina Kuwae plays Kyouka Izumi, Ayaka Konno plays Gin, and Keisuke Ueda plays Chūya Nakahara.
Over in Japan, the original light novel came out in April of 2019, and has since received a manga adaptation.
The original anime adaptation of Bungo Stray Dogs came out in 2016, and the second anime series debuted later that same year. The third season then came out in 2019. It’s being made available in America through Crunchyroll and Funimation, as it’s offered both for streaming and for home video. There’s also the spinoff manga Bungo Stray Dogs Wan! (a.k.a. Bungo Stray Dogs Ruff!). This manga spinoff received its own anime adaptation that debuted earlier this year. It is also made available to American audiences through Crunchyroll and Funimation.
